The Origin of Vladhed
In 1997, before we had kids, we had a dog and a bunch of cats. We got our dog Vladimir as a puppy and he was a handful unless we exercised him a lot. So for a while, it seemed our life revolved around him. In September we decided to stop sponging off of my work and our alma mater (U of Ottawa) and get dial-up internet and e-mail. So one sunny day, we walked to their offices in downtown, along with our two god children who we were watching for the afternoon, and signed up.
Once at the office, they asked us to pick a username. We wanted something unique and SPAM proof (not an English word or common name). Somehow we came up with vladhed that was a mix of Vlad's name and Eddie's suicide note from Rocky Horror Picture Show "I'm going out of my head" where the catcall is "spelt H.E.D".
